The end of MS Office as we know it?

Linux, Microsoft

Talk about it in our Forums

Michael Robertson (of linspire, gizmoproject and various other projects) announced today that his new company is launching a new, web only based app that will replace Microsoft Office.  AjaxWrite looks pretty cool.  We’ll have to see how it really performs in the market, but here are a few perks that I can see after testing it out.

  1. It’s completely, 100% free.
  2. It’s completely cross platform.  Works find on my Ubuntu install and the document I saved opens in OpenOffice2 without any loss of formatting.
  3. Did I mention it’s free?

He also mentions that a new product will be available every Wednesday on his AjaxLaunch site.

This could turn out to be very interesting if he can get the PR gears rolling and some sort of adoption in the user community.  Of course there are some negatives as well.  This won’t help road warriors much if they don’t have an internet connection.

geek out.
