Deskbar – the Ubuntu app you didn’t know you needed.

I've just discovered an amazing, supremely time saving app! Actually it's a combination of a panel app and a search tool.

Meet Deskbar Applet and Beagle. Deskbar is a cool little applet that resides in your panel. (I've not got three panels. The top panel with my menus and most used programs, the bottom panel with my weather, desktop switcher and trash, and no a side panel with Deskbar in it).

Simply type a word or phrase into Deskbar and it will ransack your hard drive(s) for you to come up with an answer! It will go out to websites such as google, yahoo or dictionary.com for you.

Add to this the power of Beagle and you can do funky things like search the text in text documents, search chat logs and much, much more.

to install, enter the below command:

sudo apt-get install deskbar-applet beagle

Now, right click on one of your taskbars and choose Add to Panel. Scroll around until you find Deskbar Applet and double click it.

On your first search, use Beagle, and click to enable the Beagle Daemon. You're good to go!

geek out.
