We’ve got a bunch of DVDs at home and we occasionally loan them out to people. We’ve run into a problem lately though where we’ll loan out a DVD, and then a month later we will have forgotten which DVD is gone, and who it’s now living with.
Enter Tellico. For you Ubuntu/Debian users out there, the install is as simple as can be.
sudo apt-get install tellico
Tellico is a software suite set to manage collections. DVDs, Music, Books, Comic Books, and just about anything else with a bar code associated with it. To make the data entry go a bit easier, I borrowed a bar code scanner from work. It took less than 45 minutes to scan in and organize my 161 DVDs. It would be 162 but I still can’t figure out what’s missing.
Tellico also has other neat features, like the ability to enter in a persons info if they’re checking out a DVD from your collection. Tellico can then be told to email them automatically after a certain period to remind them to return your stuff.
My only problem with this software is that it consistently inputs the wrong ISBN when converting bar codes to ISBNs. This may however be a function of the scanner I’m using, and not the software itself.
check it out if you’d like to get a handle on what you’re collecting.
geek out.
