Want to connect to a network share without going through the long and arduous process of mounting it?

Try this:  hit (gently) the Alt-F2 keys to bring up a Run Application window.

If you’re trying to connect to a server called sarcasm.arsgeek.com and a share named ‘haha’ enter the following:

smb://sarcasm.arsgeek.com/haha

Alternately, if you have an IP address and share name, and that IP was 192.168.0.1, then enter:

smb://192.168.0.1/haha

Easy as pie.

Author’s Note: neither the server nor the share really exist, so trying that will get you no love and all errors.

You should specify that it’s a nautilus tip. Won’t work with ROX nor about any other file managers. Sadly.

Thank you for this tip, it helped me to finally settle a connection with my office LAN, it is pretty hard using a linux notebook under a windows LAN.
