Recently I acquired a single core, Intel Mac Mini here at work so I could muck about with OSX. To celebrate my find (and the 24″ widescreen monitor that came with it) I present to you three OSX easter eggs, all done through the magic of the Terminal.
Here’s how to get to the terminal in OSX. Go to your Finder, then Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal.
Once there, you can try one of these three easter eggs out.
1. Lord of The Ring – Terminal edition. In your terminal session, type the following:
LOTR /usr/share/calendar/calendar.history
2. Good and Bad singing. In your terminal session, type the following:
say -v Good
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
then try:
say -v Bad
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
(Those are the letter ‘o’ not zeros).
Lastly, the history of our world, according to OSX. In your terminal type:
cat /usr/share/calendar/calendar.history
There’s a few easter eggs for you!

Yeah. I’d complain, but it’s free.
Just wish I could do more with this HUGE screen. Like play a game.

hopefully the build quality is better than my Macbook Pro – one year on, keys are falling off, the fan is dying, and the CDRom bay is so warped I cant get a cd in without a screwdriver.

No problems with it yet. But then, it just sits on my desk and doesn’t get touched much.
I’ve heard an increasing number of folks going sour on the Macbook pros. We’ve also had a number of bad hardware experiences with the Macbooks (not pro).
