I stumbled across the Bookmarklets for zapping annoyances page today - and what a boon it has been! What is a bookmarklet? From the site:
Bookmarklets are free tools to help with repetitive or otherwise impossible tasks in your web browser.
These bookmarklets help you deal with annoying web pages.
There you have it, in a nutshell. This page includes a series of javascript based tools that you put in your bookmarks file (you can import each individually, or import the whole list at once) that help to fix poorly or annoyingly designed webpages. Things such as - removing black backgrounds, removing java and flash elements, translating leet-speak (yes, it works pretty well), and tons more.
If you go to the root of his website - there are tons more ‘bookmarklets’ available. This is going on my ‘permanent bookmark’ list.

Bookmarklets can also be very effective as web development tools which help you prevent making mistakes which users try to correct with their own bookmarklets.
I’ve gathered what I thought were the best bookmarklets for web design and zipped them up into a download that I call ‘Sherlock’. You can read about the bookmarklets I’ve included and download it from http://www.craigcecil.com/sherlock.htm
