Talk about it in our Forums

Blizzard’s announcement of Diablo 3 has my right click finger all atwitch!  I cannot tell you how many hours I burned on Diablo and Diablo 2 with the Lords of Destruction expansion.  These games were groundbreaking for their time and featured several things I love in a good hack and slash.

We here at ArsGeek want to know what YOU think about this announcement.  Are you excited?  Pensive?  Will this get you to build a new gaming rig or could you care less?  Here’s what I loved about the previous versions and what I’m hoping for in the new one.

  1. Lots of hacking and slashing.
  2. Super easy interface.  You can pretty much play the whole game using your mouse.
  3. Dynamic play - levels are never the same, multiplayer is free and fun, neat items, the ability to mod your own items in D2.
  4. I get to crush demons like they were over ripe tomatos.  Seriously, that’s fun!

That’s why this video has my heart beating faster and my wife getting worried.

I’ve watched it a number of times and I’ve gotten that old feeling again.  For the first time in a long time I’m really anticipating the release of a new game.  Anticipating it in my bones.   This has the potential to be one of the greatest games of whenever the heck it’s launched.  Even better than Duke Nukem Forever.  If Blizzard sticks to their successful format and doesn’t change the game beyond all recognition.

Diablo was really my first good multiplayer experience, set up in a rental house I shared with a couple of other gamers.  Here was Moria (Nethack) with a beautiful skin!  It was my gaming dream.   When Diablo 2 arrived, and later with the LOD expansion I was again in heaven.  Even my wife, who’s not really a gamer, enjoyed the hell out of it.  We’ve played several characters into the upper 60s and had lots of fun with this game.

From the sound of it, they won’t depart to far from their original blueprint, while updating the game enough to give me some other reason to play it than just having shiny new graphics.  It’s still tied to Battle.net - which can be good and bad, but I’ll take it.  Just please, please don’t saddle this thing with some uber-intrusive  DRM crap Blizzard, that and good game play is all I ask!

They’ll be launching with 5 character classes (including a revamped Barbarian and the Witch Doctor who looks to be a Necromancer replacement) which will be customizable.  I’m assuming they’ll have something like or better than the gems and jewels of D2 to upgrade items.  DETAILS!  I need them!

d2bch.jpgIf you haven’t checked out the Diablo universe yet, you can grab the whole series for $30 from Amazon.  It’s very much worth it.  It’s something to say that a game that came out years ago is still playable, and still ranks up there with my favorite titles that I’m currently playing.

If you’d like to get even deeper into it than that - Blizzard is hiring a whole horde of people to make this game.   Now’s your chance to get in on this franchise if you have 3D artistry skills or are a coding guru.

Wow I made a similar post about this on my blog, titled “Blizzard Entertainment will destroy our social lives”. This is because StarCraft II will also destroy my social life. I saw the Diablo II trailer when I was younger and debated getting it, but I was poor then. Should I buy it now, or just wait until Diablo III?

    Hey Tjl,

Let’s face it. Diablo II isn’t a state of the art game that’s going to wow you with graphics or novel game play (at this point, when it came out, sure). But having said that, I *still* play it.

So it’s kinda up to you. It’s a cheap game to get.

My husband travels for the living. More times than he would care to count, his company has booked him into a hotel which doesn’t provide cable Television. Last year, when surfing the web, he came across a site the allows him to Get Free Diablo 2 Items Online. Now he has a thing to perform on those nights when he is bored. This makes me incredibly happy as there have been nights when he would go out looking for anything to accomplish. He would usually spend a lot more out within the town than he had made that day. His job is to bring income in, not spend more than he makes.

For the past nine days we have been snowed in. This has not been quite significantly fun as all seven kids are trapped within the house with me for a wonderful deal with the time. It has been too cold for them to stay out for any length of time. To add to that, our electric keeps planning in and out. Whenever we do have electricity we charge the laptop battery. When the electricity goes out, we either play games, read or Get Free Diablo 2 Items Online. thanks to our generator. I’m glad we found the website where we can do this as it keeps every person occupied and quiet. I feel I miss the quiet most of all.
