I remember when Star Wars first hit the silver screen. Actually, it’s one of my earliest film memories. I also went to see the Special Edition digitally retouched, Han shoots last editions in the theater. Each has something to give, I think. The original trilogy is forever cemented in my brain as THE movies of my youth. The special edition looks shinier.
Which do you prefer? Or should we just stick with Robot Chicken?

Personally, I prefer the original version.

You know, I thought that would be my answer as well. However, I do think some of the new stuff adds a certain amount of background color. It’s just when the signal to noise ratio gets too high (stupid sight gags like the speeder scene with the rider falling off his mount. Or Han shooting first. Argh!) that I don’t appreciate them.
An Ewok removal tool would have been good to.

I think that for the most part, Han not shooting first is the only troublesome problem with the Special Edition.
The real question that keeps me up at night is someday, when I have kids, do I show them the original trilogy first, or do I show them the movies in chronological order?

HA! I do have kids and this is one of those silly little things I (and my wife) actually have given some though to.
I think we’ll do it in the order we originally saw them in the theaters. Why? The whole Luke/Vader/Leia thing just isn’t that much of a surprise if you watch episodes suck, 2 and 3 together first.

I’m surprised to discover I liked fewer of the major changes than I disliked now that I see them side by side. The only major exception is Cloud City, which looked *fantastic* in the Special Edition. The changes to the audio tracks and musical performances sucked some ass though, and the lighting and color changes were really bad for the most part - particularly the scene traveling to the Sarlacc. The new Sarlacc was terrible too. What was that, a zerg-infested giant parrot?
