To test any of these commands you could run a small live CD Linux distro like Puppy linux.
Do it on a throw away machine and have fun. When (not if) things go south power off and start again.

Actually, I believe things like this are far less of a risk in Windows, simply because cmd.exe isn’t nearly as powerful as the average nix shell. Good quality content is important but it’s not everything. I’ve seen blogs with bad content, yet they still manage to rank on top for several keywords. Sure, they will certainly bore the reader with bad content.
