Frotz for the iPhone and iPod Touch!

It wasn't too long ago that I noticed a nerdcore rapper tackling the subject of text based adventure games.  Now it seems that the popular software (popular amongst us text based adventure game enthusiasts that is) Frotz has been ported to an Apple App!

How to run a dedicated Steam server on your Ubuntu box - Countestrike style

For a while now Valve through Steam have had a dedicated server for Linux from which you can launch your multiplayer fragfests.  I've recently started messing about with it and I've gotten Counter Strike, Counter Strike Source and Half Life multiplayer to launch off of it.  I'm still mucking about with server settings and finding statistics for it however I did not find a ton of documentation on this through Google so I decided to put up my notes here.

Cro-Mag Rally for the iPhone/iPod Touch - racing gets really old school

I've been fooling around with Cro-Mag Rally by Pangea Software for a couple of days now, mostly during my commute and I've been very much enjoying it.  It's everything Monkey Ball should have been - less monkeys, more fun.

MotionX Dice for the iPhone or iPod Touch get’s it almost right

This is almost the dice app I've been searching for!  It looks amazingly pretty, the dice actually roll on screen with a flip of your phone or pod, the sounds are good, and it even rolls higher than a 5 on six sided dice!  You can skin your dice in various ways to play good old 6 sided games, poker or what have you.

World of Warcraft + God of War = Too Human

Too Human is a 3rd person action-RPG developed by Silicon Knights featuring a combination of intense combat, in-depth character customization, and a rich, compelling storyline. The mythology of the game (planned to be a trilogy) is based on a modified Norse mythology. The player controls the character Baldur, son of Odin. Baldur is one of the Norse gods – a cybernetically advanced human tasked with protecting the human race. Baldur is considered by the other gods to be less advanced than the rest, thus “too human”.

Use Nvidia? Valve has free games for you! Use ATI? Free games too!

If you've got some bastardized desktop with both ATI and Nvidia installed then you've just been hit by two branches of the lucky tree.  Nvidia (my preferred brand) offers a bit more in the way of free games, but ATI has some stuff as well.

A Totally New Way to Role-Play - The Window

These are the three precepts to a Window game: "Everything about a Window character is described with adjectives rather than numbers." "It is the actor's responsibility to play their role realistically." "A good story is the central goal.”

6 reasons why PC gaming is better than Console gaming is better than PC gaming

Until some sort of convergence happens, where computers become small enough that a good gaming rig can be had in a small, quiet, cool little box there will always be a war between consoles and PCs when it comes to gaming.

Traditional Role Playing Games - are they succumbing to MMORPGS?

Once upon a time, gaming was sacred. It was a time to spend with like minded folk sitting around drinking Mountain Dew and eating Doritos, laughing, talking, disemboweling a goblin or two, and just having fun. MMORPGs have taken a lot of that away. Now you play alone, or with strangers. Unless you’re lucky enough to chance upon your real life friends on the same server.
