I enjoyed many different franchises from the mid-late 80's, but there was one that trumped them all. Ghostbusters. I had a tape of Ghostbusters that I honestly watched about 100-200 times. Just ask my parents if you don't believe me. They can quote every line from the movie, just from being around while I was mesmerized by Stay-Puft.

I'd say about 1 in 2 people reading this either play World of Warcraft, know someone that plays it, or has completely lost their lives to it. The reason I know that is because the expansion pack to WoW, Wrath of the Lich King set record numbers for sales its first 24 hours upon release.

Video game adaptations of movies are notoriously awful, as are movie adaptations of video games. Case in point: the Spiderman games suffered from clunky controls and the Tomb Raider movies were overly dramatized and unfaithful to the video game character designs. Games like these are usually shovelware (that is, games that are produced quickly and cheaply in order to get the game in stores as quickly as possible to take advantage of hype). Even though these games are notoriously bad, affiliation with popular movies usually causes them to receive fairly good sales results based on name-recognition.
