I'd say about 1 in 2 people reading this either play World of Warcraft, know someone that plays it, or has completely lost their lives to it. The reason I know that is because the expansion pack to WoW, Wrath of the Lich King set record numbers for sales its first 24 hours upon release.

They are kind of pretty and shiny in a hard bitten, vaporware sort of way. But wait, could this be the proof that we're all waiting for? Will DNF be an actual product in our lifetime? I'll let you decide that while you gaze lovingly at the once familiar mug of our long lost protagonist. Let's hope that if it is real, it makes a better impression than Spore.

Hey it may be Monday but at least this stuff is relatively cheap. Today we have deals primarily from Amazon, with lots of DVDs of Blu and other types, a pre-order special for the Lich King, VAIO clearence items - some up to 36% off, and a $6 video game called Overlord.

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably heard of Good Old Games (GOG.com). I've been hearing a lot about it as well so I decided to finally check it out and what I discovered was a little slice of gamer heaven. Let's start with some of the problems of modern gaming - issues that I have at least, maybe you'll agree with some of them. First of before anything else is the state of the software. Buggy releases which feel like nothing more than late beta stage games, crippled with DRM and support that consists of the user doing all of the footwork.

EA released the first Spore patch today (PC only, Mac users will have to check back). You can grab it here. Here's what it does (details in the full post), and the official site.

Speaking of SecuRom - I'm not quite sure why software companies continue to insist that DRM of this type (or any type) is worth it. I wonder how much money EA stuck into this? The game was available on the torrents before it's official launch and yet here's EA and far to many other companies shoveling money down the DRM hole. And it's doubly a problem because of their refusal to see this as an issue. If the game sells well, EA says "See! DRM isn't that big a deal, people don't care and we're still selling games." If the game's sales are hurt by DRM they fall back on "Pirates are killing our bottom line!" Seriously? Games will get pirated, sure. But you're much more likely to sell copies if they're not crippled in the first place by software that does nothing to stop the pirates and everything to annoy legitimate users.

Ah Tuesday, the inevitable outcome of Monday. Not quite ready to look forward to the weekend yet but glad that the big M is done. Today we're looking at sizable rebates on Macs, a nice video card bundle, free metal MP3s (and a face plant), the man of steel and more.

This is a disturbing trend I've been noticing, most recently with Call of Duty: World At War. You have to now put up money for a game you may not want, just to help the game developers debug their beta release.

Just a quick note to let you all know that I've just opened the ArsGeek Boutique. It's a handy little store in which I'll be highlighting the games I'm currently playing (or drooling over) the electronics I love so much, the books I'm reading and the DVDs I'm watching.

Looks like a whole lot of updating going on at EA's spore.com! They're currently down, most likely adding the promised updates to the site for the Spore launch, coming this Sunday.

The Wiis! They're back! Plus the Beatles on DVD, Harry Potter lost the format wars, INXS digital style, a relatively inexpensive (and real by jove) Les Paul. Not only all this, but I'll hook you up with instructions to get some free flowers too because flowers rock.

For purely research purposes, I downloaded and installed the Spore Creature creator today. What a hoot! I'm plunging into this game and very much enjoying myself. I spent some time getting familiar with everything tonight and designed a few additions to the Sporepedia. Feel free to check them out here.

In 1987, Capcom unveiled a new franchise - Bionic Commando. Bionic Commando started as a standalone arcade game, in which the the main character was a soldier equipped with a bionic arm used for swinging, grabbing, and ass-kicking. In 1988, a sequel was made for the original Nintendo Entertainment System. Two weeks ago, Capcom released a remake of the 1988 NES classic on the Playstation Network, XBox Live Arcade, and PC gaming systems.
